SIGMATEST 2.070

New generation portable meter to measure the electrical conductivity of non-ferromagnetic metals

The SIGMATEST 2.070 is a portable eddy current instrument which measures the electrical conductivity of non-ferro-magnetic metals based on the complex impedance of the measuring probe. The measuring range for the instrument is established by calibration.

When unknown test pieces are measured, the instrument converts the complex impedance value to an electrical conductivity value. The electrical conductivity value is indicated on the instrument’s LCD display.

Features:

  • Easy operation
  • Wide frequency range to measure several material thicknesses
  • Temperature compensation for stable results also at variating temperatures
  • Automatic distance compensation up to 0.75 mm for measurement of items in bags or measuring through painting
  • Correction factors for measuring on curved surfaces
  • Increased measurement accuracy also at high frequencies (480 kHz) of +/- 0.5 %
  • Shielded probes to avoid edge effects
  • Long wearing probes with titan protection to reduce wear
  • Robust design for on-site usage

Metal Conductivity Meter for Non-Destructive Material Testing

The SIGMATEST 2.070 is a portable electrical conductivity meter designed for non-destructive testing of metals. The device measures the electrical conductivity of non-ferrous metals and alloys to help verify material properties and production quality.

Conductivity testing is widely used to check alloy composition, heat treatment condition, and material consistency without damaging the component.

The portable design allows engineers to perform conductivity testing directly on production parts, finished components, or incoming material.

Electrical Conductivity Testing for Metal Inspection

Electrical conductivity measurement is a common method for evaluating the properties of non-ferrous metals. Changes in conductivity can indicate variations in alloy composition, heat treatment, or material structure.

The SIGMATEST 2.070 measures conductivity using eddy current technology, which allows fast and reliable measurements on metal surfaces.

Typical materials tested include:

  • aluminum and aluminum alloys

  • copper and copper alloys

  • non-ferrous metal components

  • conductive metal materials used in manufacturing

Because the measurement is non-destructive, conductivity testing can be performed on finished parts without affecting the material.

Typical Applications of Conductivity Testing

Portable conductivity meters are widely used in manufacturing and inspection environments where material verification is required.

Common applications include:

  • alloy sorting in metal processing plants

  • verification of heat treatment in aluminum components

  • inspection of aerospace aluminum materials

  • quality control of conductive metal parts

  • incoming material inspection in manufacturing facilities

These applications help manufacturers confirm that materials meet required specifications before further processing.

Industries Using Metal Conductivity Testing

Electrical conductivity testing is commonly used across industries where non-ferrous metals are used.

Typical industries include:

  • aerospace component manufacturing

  • automotive manufacturing

  • aluminum processing plants

  • electrical component production

  • metal fabrication and material testing laboratories

In these industries, conductivity testing helps ensure material quality, process consistency, and compliance with engineering standards.

Advantages of Portable Conductivity Testing

Portable conductivity meters provide several advantages for industrial inspection.

Key benefits include:

  • non-destructive testing of metal components

  • fast conductivity measurement during production or inspection

  • verification of alloy composition and heat treatment condition

  • portable testing directly on the component

  • reliable material sorting and quality control

These advantages make electrical conductivity testing an important tool for metal manufacturing and material inspection processes.
